16 - Is Being a People Pleaser a Bad Thing?

Hannah Bugas Episode 16

[The boundaries workshop is no longer running]

Do you identify with being a people pleaser? Do you have the compulsion to go out of your way to do things for others to your own detriment?

Many consider being a ‘people pleaser’ a negative, implying that you can’t stand up for yourself and establish boundaries. But for others, it’s often just about wanting to help people—and is that such a bad thing?

The fact of the matter is, it isn’t a bad thing at all. However, there’s a line that you can cross that can turn wanting to help others into compulsive people-pleasing.

Here’s an overview of what was discussed.

  • Why being a people pleaser is not inherently a bad thing.
  • Taking time to think about your accomplishments.
  • What circumstances cause people pleasing to become harmful.
  • Why people grow up to become people pleasers.
  • How to become a healthy people pleaser by identifying what your boundaries are and learning how to enforce them
